These schools registered a combined 1,292 participants of the events 3,600 runners.
Lynbrook Elementary School, a 13-year award recipient, brought 323 students to the Kids Run this year. First time group coordinator and PE teacher Jed Bobier says their key to continued success is, “the teachers, administration and family support which has continued to grow over the years.”
As part of the Healthy School Award, each school will be awarded $1,000 during a school assembly from long- time MCM partner Sodexo, in addition to providing healthy snacks for all students. Prizes courtesy of MCM partners Silver Diner and the National Watermelon Promotion Board will also presented. MCM staff members, U.S. Marines from Marine Corps Base Quantico, and MCM mascots Miles and Molly will demonstrate fitness and exercise activities during the award presentations to be held in early 2014.
“The Healthy School Award is helping to foster physical fitness among the next generation of athletes,” says MCM Director Rick Nealis. “The MCM is proud to reward the youngest of our runners and encourage positive commitment to a continued healthy lifestyle.”
